consortium of Taiwanese consumer electronic device vendors and Industrial Technology Research
Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan.
- EVD - Enhanced Versatile Disc, defined by the Beijing E-World consortium of Chinese
consumer electronic device vendors.
- Thouch a licensee of On2 Technologies' VP6 video
coding standard, E-World members initially released EVD players with support only for
MPEG-2. More recently, E-World has announced plans to support H.264. Presumably, the
customers of early EVD players will be disappointed once disks labelled EVD disks are
released, which can not be played by earlier EVD players. What is the point of defining
a standard if it changes dramatically throughout the lifecycle of compliant products?
- DVD - Digital Versatile Disc, the nearly universal digital video disk format used in
outside of Asia.
- VCD - Video Compact Disc, stanard compact disc media format and data capacity, popular
in Asia.
- Laserdisc, analog video disks
