  • FVD - Forward Versatile Disc, defined by the Advanced Optical Storage Research Alliance consortium of Taiwanese consumer electronic device vendors and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan.
  • EVD - Enhanced Versatile Disc, defined by the Beijing E-World consortium of Chinese consumer electronic device vendors.
    • Thouch a licensee of On2 Technologies' VP6 video coding standard, E-World members initially released EVD players with support only for MPEG-2. More recently, E-World has announced plans to support H.264. Presumably, the customers of early EVD players will be disappointed once disks labelled EVD disks are released, which can not be played by earlier EVD players.
