Digital Video Technology Vendors

Digital Video Markets

Different markets for digital video technology have different requirements:

3D graphics technologies are used for games that take advantage of as much performance as possible to give the best user experience.

Home entertainment video technologies primarily perform decode but must support high resolution displays.

Mobile, portable, and hand-held video technologies typically have lower resolution displays but must operate with low power conumption.

Security, surveillance, and video conference video technologies perform digital video encoding and must be reliable in harsh environments.

Production, studio, broadcast, and cinema video technologies perform proprietary (non-standard) high performance functions and are sold at relatively high prices.

Some general purpose video technologies are able to serve the requirements of multiple markets.

Digital Video Value Chain

The figure below shows the digital video value chain (or value web).

Advice and Benchmarking

If you are in the market for real benchmarks or truly unbiased advice about digital video or other areas of digital signal processing then I recommend that you contact Berkeley Design Technology, Inc.
